Celebrities are making donations to help people affected by heavy downpours that flooded the capital and central regions this week.
Actress Kim Hye-soo donated W100 million to the Hope Bridge Association of the National Disaster Relief on Wednesday (US$1=W1,303).
She reportedly felt particularly heartbroken after hearing reports of a woman, her sister with a disability and young daughter who died when their subterranean home in Seoul was flooded. She wrote on her social media on Tuesday, "The number of dead and missing is rising. I wish everyone who has not yet returned home from work or other business a safe return home and hope there will be no more damage."
Comedian Yoo Jae-suk and singer Psy also joined the relief efforts. On Thursday, Yoo donated W100 million to the Hope Bridge Association, and Psy donated W100 million to the Korean Red Cross.
Actress Han Ji-min donated W50 million to the Community Chest of Korea to help disabled people. She played a woman with a twin sister with Down's syndrome in her latest TV series, "Our Blues." Actress Kim Go-eun also donated W50 million to the Hope Bridge Association.
Kang Seung-yoon and Kim Jin-woo of boy band Winner donated W50 million and W10 million, respectively, while Park Jin-young of boy band GOT7 donated W30 million.
Actor Kang Tae-oh, who is appearing in the hit series "Extraordinary Attorney Woo," Im Si-wan, a star of this summer's aviation disaster film "Emergency Declaration," and A-rin of girl group Oh My Girl each donated W20 million, while comedians Park Na-rae, TV personality Yoo Byung-jae and actresses Hong Soo-hyun and Yoon Se-ah each donated W10 million.
