K-Pop band also Included Among Billboard's Year-End List of Top Artists
The latest music video of boy band Bangtan Boys, also known as BTS, reached over 100 million hits on YouTube on Tuesday.
"The music video of the remix version of their song 'MIC Drop' became their 12th video to garner over 100 million views on YouTube, the most for any Korean singer," their management agency said.
Bangtan Boys, also known as BTS, were included among the "Top Artists" in Billboard's year-end charts.
BTS ranked 10th, outpacing other global stars like Coldplay (11th), Ariana Grande (15th), and Adele (47th), while British singer Ed Sheeran topped the list.
The list was based on the combined results of Billboard's various charts, album sales, records of streaming and other data for the year.
Psy was the only Korean singer listed on the year-end chart in 2012 with his megahit song "Gangnam Style."
Boy band Bangtan Boys, also known as BTS, were the most tweeted-about celebrities this year, according to Twitter's year-end data released on Tuesday.
They were followed by American pop idol Justin Bieber, English singer Harry Styles, and U.S. President Donald Trump.
The group have over 10 million followers on Twitter. Fellow K-Pop groups SEVENTEEN and MONSTA X ranked No. 2 and No. 9, proving the rise of K-pop across the globe.
BTS also gained an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the most Twitter engagements for a music band last month. They started communicating with their fans via social media even before they officially made their debut in 2013, and they still tweet. Thanks to their effort to engage with fans online, they got 6 million new followers this year alone.
Their latest song, "Mic Drop" released in late November reached No. 28 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. They gained mainstream media attention in the U.S. after performing at the annual American Music Awards last month.
