Singer Kim Gun Mo is entangled in a sexual assault scandal. On December 6, the YouTube channel Garo Gero Institute, which is hosted by lawyer Kang Yong Suk and former reporter Kim Yong Ho, featured Kim Gun Mo’s alleged sexual assault of a woman.
Lawyer Kang Yong Suk said, “A woman who was sexually assaulted by Kim Gun Mo contacted me directly by email and I met with her twice. We walked through the evidence to measure the validity and we were able to get a considerable amount of evidence.”
Kang claimed that the singer went to an entertainment bar in Gangnam in August 2016 by himself, wearing his signature Batman T-shirt that he often wore on the TV show “My Ugly Duckling.” It is said that he didn’t drink hard liquor but ordered soju instead. After drinking with 8 bar girls in a room, he ordered all other women to leave except for the victim and allegedly told her to come into the bathroom. Kang also claimed that Kim forced her into oral sex and sexually assaulted her on the sofa. It is also said that Kang Yong Suk and Kim Yong Ha asked the victim why she had not screamed, and she said that there had been 17 rooms and no one would have heard if she tried. He was in Room No. 9 at that time.
Kang filed a criminal complaint against the singer to represent the alleged victim on December 9. On the way to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, Kang told reporters that “Kim has not apologized nor admitted to his offense and the victim is still suffering from the trauma from back then. What the victim is consistently seeking is for Kim to admit and sincerely apologize.”
The singer’s agency denied the accusation shortly after Kang’s claim was made. A source from Kim Gun Mo’s agency stated, “The suspicions of sexual assault reported by Garo Sero Institute are untrue. We will confer with a lawyer about taking legal action against spreading false rumors and defamation. His image has been seriously tarnished.”
