Boyfriend, a male K-Pop group with six members, ended their official group activities as of May 16th in pursuance of the conclusion of their contract.
Starship Entertainment announced the disbandment as they wrote in the caption of a video they posted to Boyfriend’s official Twitter account. The post pulled together various video clips showing the members’ happy and smiling faces. The agency stated, “We sincerely thank them for their passion and heart as proud artists of Starship. We will not forget all the moments we’ve had together. We also sincerely thank the fans who have loved and supported Boyfriend for around 8 years. We hope people will continue to show their warm interest and support in their new beginnings.”
It is stated that Boyfriend and the agency had serious discussions about future activities. After much deliberation, they came to the agreement to officially end group activities on May 16th, 2019 with the conclusion of their contract.
The compelling K-Pop idol group Boyfriend made their debut in 2011 with the single, “Boyfriend.” They have been loved for their powerful but dandy image, releasing songs like, “Janus,” “I’ll Be There,” and “Don’t Touch My Girl.” Boyfriend won the Japanese Edition of the Golden Disk Award for “Top 3 Best New Artists in Asia” and the Asia Model Festival Awards “Popularity Award” in 2015. The six members appeared on KBS’ idol rebooting program, “The Unit” and released the fan song titled “Sunshower” in 2018.
Boyfriend’s worldwide fans pay their best wishes for the future of the members.
“South Korean boy band Boyfriend has greatly influenced many fans all over the world. They have given them pure love and care since their debut. With that, we sincerely hope nothing but happiness and success with the members’ future goals,” said a user online.
Donghyun wrote, “I’ve lived every day of my 20s as the leader of Boyfriend, and I feel so grateful about the fact that I was able to receive so much love from the fans. From now on, no matter how I stand in front of you all, I will try my best so that the memories I’ve made as Boyfriend do not fade.”
Jeongmin’s letter reads as follows: “Starting from the day I introduced myself to you all for the first time, we’ve made many memories. These days, although I stay up all night with some worries I don’t understand, the temperature and memories of all the days that I spent laughing and crying become clearer. Thank you. I’ll never forget the love you gave us, to the point where I can’t express my gratitude through these words.”
Youngmin said, “2011 was an unforgettable year in which I was able to be reborn. I still vividly remember that day. Although Boyfriend has come to an end like this, please support the happiness of us six members. Let’s meet later with a smile and look back on our happy memories.”
Hyunseong posted a letter that read, “Honestly, it’s sad and regrettable, but why don’t we laugh and think about our past memories together? Many moments come to mind while writing this letter. In those memories, I just feel grateful and sorry to you all.”
Kwangmin stated, “Whenever I feel tired and the future seems difficult, I’ll move forward after looking back at the memories and times we’ve shared. Please support and love the six of the Boyfriend members’ individual paths.”
Minwoo posted, “Although everyone will be walking their own paths, as if leaving their old homes, we decided to support each other and work hard for the day that we can meet once again. We promised! We’ll be together and stand here forever.”
