The 2019 Billboard Music Awards, which featured legendary pop artists, iconic boy bands, fast-rising trendsetters, and plenty in between, hit the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 1st. It was a massive night for a lot of A-listers. Kelly Clarkson hosted and Cardi B lead the nominees with 21 noms in 18 categories.
The Canadian rapper Drake nabbed 12 awards to bring his all-time total up to 27, coming out on top over Talyor Swift who had been awarded 12 trophies. As such, Drake became the most-awarded artist in BBMAs history.
Notably, the Billboard Music Awards red carpet was imbued with the screams for the seven dandy guys BTS who dominated the BBMAs stage for the second time in two years. This fervor culminated in when BTS was presented with the Top Social Artist trophy at the event. Besides their Top Social Artist win, BTS was also up for Top Duo/Group at this year’s BBMAs.
A slew of media outlets headlined a story about BTS’ feat in the K-pop scene.
“If the 2019 Billboard Music Awards were judged by audience reaction alone, Korean pop group BTS should be considered the night’s overall winner,” said Christopher Mosley, Editor, NBC News. “Every mention drew tremendous applause, a fact host Kelly Clarkson took advantage of repeatedly. When Clarkson shouts “Let’s do a selfie with BTS,” thousands scream their approval.”
The stunning boy group with good looks was all decked out in Alexander Mcqueen and flashed the friendship bracelets that their fellow megastar Halsey got them earlier last week. These unbeatable artists rendered the stage heated with their performance of their collab “Boy With Luv." Halsey shared a set of photos taken with the members of BTS and wrote, “I’ve waited all my life,” which is a line from “Boy With Luv.” The 2019 Billboard Music Awards felt like a BTS show. Case in point, Halsey, an American singer and incredible dancer, was lost amid BTS’ flawless choreography. It was a K-Pop dominant world after all.
BTS, who is comprised of V, Suga, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Jimin, and J-Hope, raved about how they felt when they gave their awards acceptance speech. RM said, “This means a lot to us. We’ll do our best today. That’s all we can do.”
BTS landed in the annual best-selling chart released last March by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which represents the worldwide record music industry. BTS’s two albums “Love Yourself: Answer” and “Love Yourself: Tear” ranked No. 2 and 2 on the IFPI’s global top albums of 2018, becoming the first K-pop act to make the chart.
BTS’s Map of the Soul: Persona was released last April, which is the group’s first album of 2019 and marks the beginning of their new chapter. The theme features the boys in rose-toned rooms in a house whilst various states of getting ready continue. It is quite possible that BTS will make this new album into a trilogy much like the Love Yourself albums. In addition, BTS paid tribute to K-Pop founding fathers by covering Seo Taiji and the Boys’ “Come Back Home” in 2017. It seems like BTS never stops running and their fans reside in a haven that BTS presents with through their mesmerizing music.
