Consisting of seven members formed by Happy Face Entertainment, Dream Catcher makes a debut in Japan this month with a Japanese version of their single, “What.”
“What,” a vibrant pop-rock song that thrives on propulsive guitar riffs, pounding drum beats, and sleek synths as it roars towards the explosive choral questioning of the repeated title query, is the lead track on Dream Catcher’s Alone in the City album.
The music video for “What” features the group interacting with the world as if they were awake in dreams and nightmares. They perform the song’s dynamic choreography while in a crystal snow globe and amid a dark alley. Looking fierce in their own quirky getup, each of them goes for an intensely feminine look in the music video.
Happy Face Entertainment was in the hot seat before officially releasing the music video for “What” that allegedly seemed to glamorize suicide. This suicide recalling music video really bummed the fans out and they accused the group’s agency of the ominous music video teaser clip, saying “It has a dangerous message---allusions to suicide---and should be taken down.”
The group’s agency issued an apology on Dream Catcher’s Instagram.
“The topic of the mystery code video was STRESS, not suicide. Everything the news coverage saw in the video is stress-related content. We realized this sort of portrayal could’ve been interpreted in extreme ways. We apologize to the ones who felt offended by the mystery code video.”
Afterward, Happy Face Entertainment deleted the video in question and has been more cautious to date, not to make the misguided deployment happen again.
In the meantime, Dream Catcher released a surprise for their fans with a mind-blowing music video for “Wonderland” the other day. Included on their third mini album, Alone in the City, “Wonderland” allows Dream Catcher’s vocals and beauty to shine through in the music video. As opposed to bubbly South Korean girl groups, Dream Catcher plays games a bit differently, serving up slick choreography with the furious sound of screaming guitars and crashing drums. This rock sound music style makes Dream Catcher more prominent.
What’s in the future for the end of 2018 and beyond?
“We want to get more love from fans worldwide, so we're determined to try harder. We hope to spread happiness, and be known as not just the best, but a group with a unique color,” said Dream Catcher.
Dream catcher’s fans keep rooting for each of the members.
“They release high-quality music with a unique concept, release tons of special clips with amazing covers and have albums where every song deserves to be a title track. I really can’t believe that we are blessed to have them,” a fan posted on Dream Catcher’s social media.
