A K-pop girl band GWSN, alias Gong Won So Nyeo, which translates to 'Girls in the Park' in English, officially debuted last Wednesday.
This multiracial girl group composed of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese members was unveiled after a three-year-long training with Kiwi Media Group, a music entertainment company owned by Kim Hyung-seok, one of the best-known K-pop songwriters. Producer Kim formed mainstay in the K-pop scene in the 1990’s as famous singers, such as Shin Seung-hun, Kim Kun-mo, Park Jin-young, Babyvox, and Yoo Seung-jun, sang a number of hit songs that Kim had composed.
This septet girl band consisting of Miya (Rap, Sub Dancer), SeoKyoung (Lead Dancer), SeRyoung (Leader, Main Vocal), Anne (Sub Vocal, Rap), Minju (Sub Dancer), SoSo (Sub Dancer), and Lena (Sub Vocal) released their debut album, "The Park in the Night,” on September 5th at 6p.m. as well as the music video for the album’s title track “Puzzle Moon.”
GWSN, the acronym for the group’s Korean name, “Gong Won So Nyeo,” knows how to make K-pop fans feel excited. One month before their official debut occurred in September, this girl group had dropped two terse teaser clips featuring the girls strolling in the woods and GWSN members in their pajamas as they sit on a bed in a blue lit room. The setting embodies night time. Much like their album name: “The Park as in the Night.”
At that time K-pop fanatics had no idea who the girls were and what type of songs they would play. Not even a debut date or an album title was unveiled. A few days later Kiwi Media kicked off feeding the fans with interesting information bit by bit, which made them more interested, longing for the new girl group’s debut.
“Puzzle Moon,” their title unique dance track recorded in the trendy deep-house genre, is full of pointed choreography in the music video and is cut with scenes of the girls making their way through a hotel so they find their rooms, get in bed, and wish for a full moon that will make all of their hopes and dreams come true. This eye-catching music video has been blowing K-pop fanatics away since the release.
GWSN performed their debut stage on the 6th of September broadcast of Mnet’s “M! Countdown.” Their U.S. debut will be Saturday, November 10th when they visit Dallas to perform at the 2018 Korean Festival of Dallas.
