There are so many nicknames labeled to the sextet’s girl band G-Friend such as: “Power Pureness,” “Passion Haze,” “Uber Cool Boo,” and “Summer Babe.” This summer sugary girl group G-Friend returned with a new EP at the end of last month.
According to the group’s agency Source Music, its title track, “Sunny Summer,” is a dance pop tune that tells the story of a summer night, featured with easy dance moves with fanning motion. The tracks are: "Sunny Summer," "Vacation," "Sweety," "Windy Windy," and "Live in the Air."
G-Friend has always put up a cute and friendly girl-next-door concept with plenty of inspiration from school girl themes. However, this new album, “Sunny Summer” is a bit of a change from what their fans are used to, giving a more refreshing vibe.
The girls shared the teaser images for the EP on their official Twitter account, dropping two teaser photos; one photo shows a stereo and skateboard, while the other features several ice cream cones. This new album could be a repackaged version of their "Time for the Moon Night" album, which was their first new single of 2018.
A mix of whimsy and dramatic shifts, “Time For The Moon” starts off simply with a haunting piano melody and gradually builds to a soaring and expressive close. The members of G-Friend sing their way with the song that is seasoned with retro-inspired digital quirks, fluttering synths, and layered harmonies between dynamic tempo and tonal shifts.
Now the girls are pumped up about what their mini album will bring to them as the summer goes on. They are in full swing.
“As the main theme is summer, we filled up this album with a line of cool songs which go well with summertime. We are excited about releasing this sort of album,” said G-Friend members. “As you know, it’s scorching in summer, which makes us exhausted. We hope everyone could go through cool summer days listening to our songs. We gave it our best shot to please our fans. We wish to be more loved than ever!”
G-Friend consists of Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji. Yuju release her first solo single, “Love Rain,” last June. The members have also released their first Japanese album recently with new versions of their hits. It features “Me Gustas Tu,” the Japanese version of one of the most famous K-pop songs, as part of their new Japanese album. How versatile they are!
