Lee Rae-na, the young wife of CJ Group heir apparent Lee Sun-ho, died in the U.S. over the weekend. The food and entertainment conglomerate said on Saturday that Lee (22) died at around 3 a.m. on Friday at her home in New Haven, Connecticut.
Lee is the daughter of Lee Yong-kyu, a former member of veteran pop band Koreana.
She married Lee Sun-ho in April this year and the couple moved to the U.S. in August so she could complete her studies at Yale University while her husband took a master's course at Columbia.
Lee Rae-na studied in the U.S. and Switzerland and took up fencing when she was a high school student. She was a member of the fencing team at Yale, where she was admitted in 2014.
She took a leave of absence from the school last year and was preparing to go back but reportedly experienced a lot of stress in the process.
CJ Group has been hit by a series of misfortunes. In 2013, the chairman was arrested on charges of embezzlement and his health has been deteriorating ever since.
